However, as environmental concerns rise and fuel costs escalate, many Indian consumers are looking for alternatives. Electric Vehicles (EVs) are increasingly seen as a sustainable solution to these challenges, offering a cleaner, cost-effective way to get around.
General Vehicle Ownership
76.77% of respondents own an automobile, with 40.11% of them owning a car, 31.42% owning a motorcycle, and 18.85% owning a scooter.
Notably, 9.63% of respondents do not own any vehicle.
Electric Vehicle Ownership
Around 49.08% of respondents currently own an electric vehicle, reflecting a significant presence of EVs in the market.
Of the individuals who own an EV, 29.01% own an electric car, 19.71% own an electric motorcycle, and 18.91% own an electric scooter.
A considerable portion of the population (32.37%) does not own any type of electric vehicle, though there is notable awareness around EVs.
EV Brands: Popularity and Preference
Electric Car Ownership: The most popular EV car brand is Tata (25.02%), followed by Hyundai (11.61%) and MG (3.92%). Other brands like Audi and Mercedes also have a presence, while 27.87% of people do not own an electric car.
Electric Motorcycle Ownership: OLA takes the lead in the electric motorcycle segment, with 19.71% of respondents owning one. Other popular brands include TVS (12.69%) and Hero Electric (9.61%).
Electric Scooter Ownership: Again, OLA is the most popular choice for electric scooters, with 20.79% of respondents owning one. Other notable brands include TVS (13.03%) and Hero Electric (8.36%).
EV Awareness
In terms of awareness, TVS and Ola are among the most recognized electric two-wheeler brands, with 19.13% and 17.84% recognition, respectively.
Ather, Vida, and Bajaj Chetak also enjoy notable awareness.
Future EV Consideration
The future of EVs in India looks promising, as 72.03% of respondents would consider purchasing an electric vehicle in the future. The survey shows that there is growing interest in switching to electric alternatives, with 53.06% of people preferring to buy an electric car, followed by 20.92% for electric motorcycles and 16.12% for electric scooters.
On the contrary, 13.44% of respondents would not consider an electric vehicle, while 9.9% are uncertain.
